PnP Network Study: Bringing the dots together

Transforming Distribution: What-if? Integration of the Pick n Pay Business into one Network.

Project Date : 2023

Client Overview

Pick n Pay, founded in 1967 by Raymond Ackerman in South Africa, began as a small family-owned business and has grown into one of Africa's largest retail chains. Its mission is to offer affordable, high-quality products while promoting community development and sustainability across the regions it serves.

Project Objectives

High-level review of the distribution network and infrastructure of the Pick ‘n Pay brands, with the intent to find opportunities to share infrastructure to the mutual benefit of all business units. The results will allow the development of a long-term supply chain network strategy and the basis for all future infrastructure developments.

Project Approach

  • Initial team meeting & scope alignment.

  • Interview different stakeholders within the project and collect valuable information for inputs for modelling.

  • Conduct a centre of gravity analysis, understanding the number of nodes vs operational costs.

  • Modelling and reviews with Stakeholders to test input assumptions and inputs.

  • Elimination of various modelling scenarios bused on Operational and Capital outputs.

  • Selected Modelling scenarios are detailed by region to allow further strategic planning and design.

Project Results

  • High level strategic plan for the supply chain network and the basis for all future infrastructure developments per region.

  • Regional strategic plans for Networks and Infrastructure

Relog lent invaluable knowledge from their vast experience in logistics and e-commerce to our incubator project in both a consultation and implementation capacity. Not only did they go above and beyond what was required for this project, but their attention to detail and personability made working with Relog a standout for me amongst the various service providers and professionals we dealt with during the project duration.
